There’s something transformative and healing about a boudoir shoot. I’m so honored to be a part of the empowerment process that each of these beautiful ladies goes through, and I’m always amazed by the metamorphosis that takes place. The brilliant Ms. D’s story is a perfect example of how courageously inspiring these women can be. As a survivor of sexual assault, Ms. D brought light to the darkest of situations and truly embodies the empowerment that boudoir photos can bring. I took a moment to ask Ms. D what her motivation for this photo shoot was.
Here’s her story:
“To be honest, I wanted to take charge of my sexuality again. I’ve always been in touch with my sexuality, but after I was sexually assaulted I felt like I lost my sparkle. Doing this shoot signifies the beginning of my recovery. Being sexy doesn’t mean yes!
After my assault I hid from my sexuality. I was afraid of it. Looking back, I think that’s because I blamed myself, in part, for my attack. I blamed my sexuality. I grew ashamed of it and began to consider it a weakness. I’ve started to see light through my darkness and I now know that my sexuality had nothing to do with my experience. I didn’t deserve to be attacked because I felt comfortable in my skin.
I did this shoot because I wanted ME to feel comfortable with ME again. My attacker doesn’t get to take anything else from me. My sexuality is MINE and I’m damn proud of it! I used to love modeling my own clothes in fashion competitions when I was kid, so it felt good to be in front of the camera again. Thank for you for everything.”
